Dear 8th Grade Parent(s),

I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you for waiting so patiently for the list of 2013-2014 8th grade events. I am confident that with our collaborated efforts, a successful year is in store.

As you know, during the month of September, the Class of 2014 participated in their first of two formation retreats with Ms. Karen Reynolds. During their retreat, the students were exposed to the importance of what it means to be Christ like role models, something that is essential as they develop into the student leaders of our school. In addition, the foundation was set for their second retreat which will take place in June, where Ms. Reynolds will focus on the importance of decision making and becoming grounded in their faith as they progress toward high school.

It was also great to see so many of you join us for our 8th Grade Family Mass. It was quite a sight to see so many of us gather in the classroom to celebrate the Eucharist. I am aware of how busy your schedules are; therefore, allow me to extend my gratitude for taking the time to join us. Furthermore, for those of you who assisted in driving the students to Skating Plus for their class social, thank you. The students had a blast!

Attached you will find a list of scheduled events for the year. Please note the scheduled events where parent chaperons and volunteer drivers will be needed. Reminders will be sent one month prior to each event to ask for volunteers for those specific events. Therefore, if you are interested in assisting for a specific event, please have all of your required information updated in the school office. If you have any questions regarding what is required or whether you are up to date on your driving requirements, feel free to contact the school office.

In addition, your child's Spirit Wear will be sent home today. Please note that wearing the t-shirt with blue jeans on Fridays is a privilege which can be rescinded based upon behavior. As a quick reminder, the students may not wear their sweatshirts on Thursdays, as we wish the entire school to present themselves in their formal Mass attire on those days.

An exciting year is upon us, but we must remember that we do have academic goals to meet. Please continue to encourage your child to always strive for academic excellence. As a junior high cluster, we three teachers are doing our utmost to prepare the students for high school. However, success will only come if the same effort is shown in each student's preparation at home.

As I stated earlier, through our collaboration we will have a successful year, a year in which we will create memories that the students will cherish for years to come. So let us work together. Let us strive to lead our children on the path to success. Let us assist them in opening their hearts so that, as the prophet Isaiah said, when they hear the Lord calling them to do His will, they will respond "Here I am Lord; send me."

Best regards,

Mr. Lopez
